After All Previous Story
At the heart of everything is simply love.
“My parents lived the Grapes of Wrath,” she shares on a sunny May afternoon. “Several times they nearly starved, but they had each other and the will to make it through. They were simple people, with a simple love, and a shared resolve to persevere. Perhaps it was a relationship defined by their generation. Or maybe it’s universal. For them, it was just how it was.”
Caught up by her imagery, I recall people I’ve known who’ve endured tough times. I see an elderly couple, arm in arm, clothes brushing, the fabric worn from years of contact. They've grown to think and act in unison, having formed unspoken agreements that give life to their life’s routines. Just separate ordinary people who’ve merged their hopes in a common stream.

Sharing common experiences over time leads inevitably to a blending. Though we each invite life differently and interpret the world in unique ways, our spirits fuse as shared events pass through our separate lives.
You could call it “simply love.” It’s a unique form of union, unexpected, covert, growing unseen, a soulful bond that happens after all.
