Circle of Trust Previous Story
True feelings can be shared through authentic speaking and genuine listening.
I fall into the yellow flames, further down and inward through the embers, drawn into a mesmerizing slow-dance of heat and changing forms. From time to time, a crackle and sizzle remind me of my presence, as the logs shift and subtly rearrange. Mysteriously the wood disappears, yet I’m never quite aware of when it happens.
In the others gathered around the fire, similar changes occur. We pass the worn wood symbol, holding it, receiving full attention. We speak in turn, weaving our tale, finishing whenever we decide. Listening and honoring is unusual, a rare and ancient act recreated. Tonight under the full moon no time has passed and the tradition persists, unbroken. Giving and receiving, speaking and listening, opening and closing—“stringing the beads” we call the respectful ceremony. Our spontaneous everyday stories wrap common words around the ineffable, pointing in heartful directions. One story is thoughtfully laid down, then another. Finally, they are strung together, held by the thread of our shared presence and intention.
Heat spreads from the simple ritual of sharing; a fire of trusting relationships reveals flames that burn in each one. We complete the circle, joining hands, and fall silent into the embers of our shared and separate selves.
