Courage to Dance Previous Story
Nothing significant happens without bold action.
We long to dance—it’s an intensely self-conscious moment. Will I make a fool of myself? Standing at the edge of the darkened room side by side, in line, not talking, wallflowers, uncomfortable. We shift our weight, we want to step out on the floor—and dance! while remaining on the perimeter, cautious, timid, convincing ourselves it’s where we’d rather be. We’re just waiting for the next song.

On a sudden impulse we take the first step, the step involving risk and promising so much more. We’ve broken free! suddenly aware of movement and counter-movement. All is interwoven, as we alternately lead and follow, push and pull, feet sliding effortlessly into spaces created seemingly just for them. The moment of courage and grace arrives with fingertips touching and palms lightly pressing together, our movements magically synchronized. We risk appearing foolish, lose track of time and become hopelessly romantic, and our trust is rewarded as we spin effortlessly into the dance fully engaged.
