Here to Stay
Tempered times, I've had my share of taking sides.

Story

Here to Stay
Acceptance is the first step in any new beginning.
How can we remain authentic, while interacting in a world that pressures us to bend to its own ideas and needs? We have faith that if we stay true to ourselves, we will find our path in the world without pretense or compromise. Often, though, we wonder when? and how?

Have we been misled by our own naïveté? Beyond doubt, we have remained true to our intentions, honoring our path, but without a clear feeling of resolution. One year became two, then three, and we thought our work was on the verge of connection. But after 8 years of waiting, we are worn out

In an after-dinner exchange with a friend, we hear frustration, judgment, and bitterness in my voice.
“How have I changed?” I ask.
“Well… I think you’re more cynical now.”

Discouraged, I lash out angrily, my defensive words identifying me as a victim—of my own insecurities and frustrations.

The next day, we wrote this song, and a calm relaxation sweeps over us. We can see yesterday’s agitation as a fleeting egoistic blast—demanding, pushing, needing. Once again, we come face to face with the tantrum-prone ego that only slowly and stubbornly relinquishes its hold.

Between the Lines

Perhaps this is the beginning of a new era. We are “here to stay” in the partnership, trusting that our place in the world will unfold in its time and way. We deepen our resolve to stay the course.

Our relationship has evolved, based on equality and openness expressed through shared activities. Jointly we write music and stories—living, notating, rereading, as a way of learning about intimate aspects of ourselves and each other. We have achieved this dream beyond our wildest imaginings.
