Homecoming Previous Story
We are truly known by the promises we keep.
Our son is far away.
His company is global, with projects worldwide. One assignment takes him to a distant country where he must solve difficult problems and help turn a troubled venture toward progress and resolution. He calls at odd hours, and his voice sounds tired.
The months drag by and progress is slow. He calls to hear familiar voices, a family voice. We greet him with encouragement and support, imagining his days of long, tedious hours, making the best of an uncertain situation, eating alone, living in a hotel room with only a few personal things around him.
He is dedicated and sincere. His commitment to his company and his word are paramount. However long it takes, he will keep his promise. He will give his best; his values don’t waver.

At the end of another late-night call, we reflect on our own times of extended commitments and separation. At such times, “home” takes on new meaning. Adversity has forged deeper understandings of what truly matters. Keeping tough promises has tested our resolve, leaving us with a clearer image of what we are made of. Those unseen fibers of character have been formed into an unshakable foundation. Then, one day our work was complete and we moved on—coming home to ourselves as never before.
