Locks Previous Story
We discover that home is not merely a location.
In a run-down Victorian house, a man sits by himself. His wife and one-year-old son are visiting family for several weeks, and he has remained behind to work on the house. It seems a perfect chance to focus on the all-absorbing project, with few distractions. But he soon finds the work depleting and empty: the reason for completing the work has left. In his loneliness, he begins a song. It remains unfinished.

Twenty years later, the young boy has become a man. He has moved away. Lessons from the old song are still half-realized. The father has felt the richness in relationships, but he has overlooked and neglected them as the years passed, setting them efficiently aside, like so many other life lessons.
Now middle-aged, they find themselves locked in old ways of being together. What matters most has been forgotten amid distractions that wear many faces, and list after list of important things to be done. Finally, they return to life’s true messages and lessons, and pick up the old music. They decide to finish it together, adding the insights brought by time.
Lessons reappear and new paths open. Awareness grows, layer upon layer. Barriers that once blocked them from finding a meaningful relationship spring into full focus during their middle years. Wondering how much they have locked out of themselves, and what remains locked within, they awaken to the musician and the poet who have slept inside. They walk through the house together and begin removing the locks from the doors, one by one.
