My Treasured Heart Previous Story
We celebrate the power of soulful places and relish the journey to discover them.
Hiking the rough and uninhabited mountains, we passed through rolling fields, dense woods, patchwork valleys, and near the ridge, in piney woods, we found the ruins of an ancient farmhouse and barn. The roof of the house had caved in, leaving scattered beams, rafters, and broken tile amid a cloak of green velvet ivy and moss. The crumbly stone walls echoed their former shape, with corners that defied gravity and time. Two great brick arches remained, nearly hidden in the rambling groundcover. After walking around and exploring each crevice we could safely enter, we sat near the old stones with our backs to the hill, looking out over the house and vast valley.

The remaining walls held stories, of lives that had been shared in the spaces they enclosed. We pictured the walls rebuilt, imagining the conversation and laughter they might hold again. Sacred places serve as windows upon our souls. They offer fresh perspectives, reflecting who we are and who we can become. We discover the hidden treasure deep within the walls: our hearts. We can each rebuild our own personal ruins, whatever they may be, large enough to hold our valued hopes. It is endless work, whose satisfactions can’t be measured. We seek the completion of our treasured hearts.
