Notes in the Margin
In life's margins and footnotes we find clues about our intentions.
Glancing to my right as I sit comfortably in my favorite chair reading, I can see in the dim light of the adjoining room, a book that catches my attention. Pulling it from the shelf, I pause for just a minute, drawn to revisit vague memories as it falls open to well worn pages, and slowly releases recollections. Skimming through the pages I rediscover notes jotted in the margins alongside sketches made in fits of inspiration. As I continue to scan each page, I note some once-important phrases underlined. There with a momentary flash of elation, tinged with sadness, I make out imaginative ideas that have been pressed between the pages for years, suddenly come back to life. The feelings sweep through me as if they were sketched only yesterday. I always intended to return to those fleeting visions. Surely something important enough to pen in my own shorthand script warrants at least a second look. Yet, the book was so casually returned to the shelf, as if holding no weight or consequence, until another day—one with more time and energy.

Handwritten notes,  good intentions

Our tendency to wait for tomorrow is  pervasive. Procrastination has foiled many dreams and sometimes spoiled our best spontaneous moments.  Time slips away as quickly and easily as random notes become wedged into the creases and bindings of our books. The window of opportunity closes as quietly as it opens, as we sit in our favorite chairs, surrounded by our best ideas and inspirations, comfortably waiting for a better time.
