Once In a While Previous Story
Sometimes when you least expect it, you find your way.
This morning's walk was difficult. We talked about the separate lives we’d created, the frustration and dissatisfaction. We shared thoughts about passions and possibilities. We were challenged by the idea of putting our lives back together in patterns that made sense and created a vision for a future together. Whenever we’d talked about it previously, I had always started out with grand intentions but at the point of action I discovered that I didn’t want to give up anything after all. It seemed I couldn't follow my heart and soul without paying a price.
But this morning was different—the crisp air, the sun streaming through wooded lanes. That April morning marked a genuine turning. While we talked, my mind raced. Suddenly I stopped and turned to Cheryl—the new direction was crystal-clear, the one true path my heart could take.

I said, “I am going to leave my job so the two of us can live a life together focused on our shared passions,” hearing my voice ringing with clarity and commitment. Not one day more. No more parallel lives! The revelation filled me with awe. I had taken a stand, finally, and the release was overwhelming. We stood by the street, in an embrace that signaled the long-awaited beginning.
I took a deep breath of spring air, then turned and saw a boy and girl sitting under a big yellow umbrella behind a table with a hand-lettered sign: “Good Morning Café.” We had walked this quiet street so many mornings without seeing them. For this day, they were the perfect reception, there just for us. We ordered orange juice, and in their smiles we saw ourselves reflected, young and full of promise.
