Swinging Statues Previous Story
Life takes hold of us. We feel the wind in our hair as we spin into an inspired future.
Children’s games on summer nights, hide and seek, flashlight tag. Midwest summer evenings, the temperature dropping from sultry to serene with kids coming out to play, catching fireflies, finding pictures in the stars. Imagination takes over, and lightning bugs make lanterns of Mason jars. A game of swinging statues re-imagines us, showing us as different selves, magically transformed.
The swinger grasps a player’s willing hand and they whirl in a circle, faster and faster, the swinger spinning, the player running, a hand outstretched to the night sky, head back, screaming with joy. The swinger suddenly releases, the player flies wildly and uncontrollably into the yard until the swinger shouts “Freeze!” A pose is struck and judged for creativity and humor. Loud laughter echoes between the trees at fantastic unpredictable statues on the dusk-darkened lawn. We grab life’s hand and shout “Swing us!” and our being shifts as we move into surprising new forms. Change is just a spin away, when we extend our hand reaching far out into the cool night sky. “Swing us!”
