The Way To Love
I want to make love with you in a special way. The way to love takes time.

Story

The Way To Love
Conversation spiked with subtle, sensory awareness is the essence of making love.
It is often said that the difference between good and ordinary relationships is the “quality time” couples spend together. We’ve discovered that quantity increases quality.

Quality begins by sharing rich experiences. We then look for mutual understanding of our shared experiences with abundant conversation (quantity). If we fail to take the deliberate step of conversation, we may skim the surface of our experiences and risk wandering apart into parallel lives. We’ll become spectators to each other’s stories, instead of partners in a richly integrated experience.

Six years ago, we decided to underscore this new understanding by spending more time together in conversation. We braided our days together with unending talks that coaxed forth subtle thoughts, and uncovered values—the things that really mattered to us. To help us continue to discover those inner crossings, we now continue to create quiet, thoughtful environments where deep meaning and essences can more easily emerge.

Sometimes we sit before a smoldering fire. Other times, we walk at the water’s edge. But the common thread is always conversation. We are piecing together an integrated life, word by word by sensitive word.

Our many hours of conversation have led us to the novel idea of making love. We’ve re-framed that notion, with its ancient primary meaning of physical attraction. We’ve nudged it toward a meaning that includes deep, soulful, integrated relationship.

Physical proximity brings a certain kind of contact, with surprising opportunities for nurturing our common ground. But the deliberate efforts we make to spend time together have nurtured conversation. And, while the physical part of proximity can happen easily, its is our deliberate, purposeful conversations that have turned a good relationship into a great one.

In the coalescing ground of conversation, we become connected and secure in our shared vision—the vision that we’ve nurtured with active listening, continual engagement, and opening ourselves to fresh possibilities. Making love with heart and soul, as well as body, has created a path to a love that will last a lifetime.
