Toward the Light Previous Story
Almost imperceptibly, we turn toward that which gives us life and energy.
My face turns inch by inch with the sun. I respond to its warmth and follow its path. My yellow petals mimic the sun’s rays, radiating outward as we mirror-dance. In the waning light of late afternoon, I follow the sun as it falls westward, there, it sinks behind a hill and I rest, studying the ground in which I grow. In the dark of night my face turns east toward the certainty of dawn. When day breaks I stand poised. Then the sun and I dance again.

Thousands of interlaced seeds create the pattern of my face. The next generation will grow through summer. When the days shorten, I release my hold and the seeds fall onto the damp autumn soil where they root and wait. Spring will once again inspire the familiar routine, only with new dancers.
We live simply, seeking the light that gives us life and energy. Through countless, almost imperceptible silent turnings, we are nourished and grow strong.
