Two Pilgrims Previous Story
Some relationships grow stronger over time; others are compelling from the beginning.
We walked along a curving country road just outside the small French town of Ronchamp in a late-afternoon snowfall, with hats pulled down over our ears. For years we had longed to see the famous country church on the hillside. We could make out the silhouette of the graceful, curving form, faintly as in a swirling snow-globe.
Winter was white, the chapel was near
Alone, we passed through the stark doors of the ark-like structure and discovered a soulful solitude. With voices echoing, we stood together singing a capella, our tentative song mysteriously choir-like, creating a penetrating memory. Thirty years later, with mature appreciation for our innocence edged by a desire for renewed simplicity, we reclaim the feelings of those two young pilgrims. We feel the hope and energy of their youthful idealism, and we rescue the pieces of the song that began on that winter’s day, and finish it. In the process, we rediscover the two dreamers we had been, pilgrims on a soulful journey. In order to grow, we returned to our past, and uncovered what was already known, simply remembering. Two remember.
Inspired by the Chapel Ronchamp by Le Corbusier 1950-54
