Waiting Room Previous Story
We sometimes realize the value of waiting only after it is over.
Brown leather chairs, backs straight, formal and order-ful, lined up against the wall, making it hard to relax, settle, and stretch in this space. Footsteps clicked on the marble floor, loudly aching to impress, adding oppressive weight to the moment as time marched on. We were worn down from endless waiting—not knowing, wondering without solution. In our imaginary waiting room.

It was so real, we could smell the leather and the lingering traces of disinfectant. We returned each morning, resumed our places, and awaited the call. Waiting for the results of challenging projects, for recognition, for the satisfactions of difficult struggle, for the fulfillments of sustained effort. But the results continued to elude us, and so each day found us sitting in our leather chairs, waiting again.
Then the call came, not outside, but from inside. On a cool January morning we rose from our stiff and stuffy leather chairs and moved on. We turned “The Waiting Room” into “Waiting Room”—an expansive, generous space where we can breathe, create, and reflect. A place with all the space and time in the world.
