Within Reach Previous Story
Missing pieces are always nearby, just within reach.
Izzi-B leaps into our arms and we sweep her to new heights.
For our little black-and-tan dachshund, it’s a well-practiced game. Our arms reach forward, palms open, fingers wide, inviting—then comes the leap, the catch, a single graceful gesture, confident, free of doubts.
Yesterday we worked a jigsaw puzzle at the old oak table in the sunroom. We studied each piece with focused attention, interpreting fit. How perfect to have a clear uncomplicated goal: complete the puzzle.
Without waiting for the usual signal of outstretched arms, artfully our little Izzi jumped to an empty chair, then onto the table. She sauntered casually toward us and rolled on her back. Our focus shifted instantly; no longer intent on the puzzle, we were immediately absorbed in her magical furry presence. We rewarded her with a tummy scratch.

Izzi-B reminded us that, even as we try to fit the pieces of our lives, there is a larger reality. So much awaits, outside our daily experience—yet within reach. By stretching our arms, opening our fingers, we may receive new inspirations at any moment, in mid-air.
