Caterpillar Blues

Caterpillar-LacingCheryl was in the Midwest for her usual summer visit, while Em stayed in Italy. One morning he discovered caterpillars on the cherry plum tree outside the bedroom window. That observation spawned an entire movie-making project. Well, one thing led to another. Finally Em called Cheryl to request that she send him the words for the first song he ever wrote—while he was in his teens. Excited about unearthing that old piece of history, we then created a new version of the song and recorded it as the soundtrack for the video.

The mixing of old and new was great fun as the process unfolded. That sweet, simple song was a meaningful one, jogging pleasant memories of our early days together.

Lyrics

Caterpillar in grassy
So high that you can’t see his colory face
Nor his body of lace

Lazy la dee dum
Lady typical the sun to take
Beauty to make

Tis’ a blistering day
I’ve got the caterpillar blues

Lawsy me I do
