Good Intentions

Good-Intentions-LacingAh, good intentions! Oh, the excuses! Haven’t we all encountered situations where someone expects to be catered to? Haven’t we all been in circumstances where one demanding person takes center stage and just thinks everyone else will fall into line? Well, entitlement doesn’t work for us.

In one particular incident, we decided to speak up and take a stand. Our intention was not to hurt anyone with our actions. But speaking up says that we won’t condone bad behavior. This song is about the courage it takes to risk offending someone else’s sensibility to encourage and allow greater self-awareness. There sometimes comes a moment to move on, let go.

Lyrics

The road to hell
I’ve heard it said
Is on a bed
Of good intentions

Paved and strewn with things
You didn’t mean
Traces left scattered round
I wish I’d never seen
That other side of you
Harsh enough to break my heart in two
How can I return
To those days of who we were
Should I close my eyes

I can almost see who we used to be
When I close my eyes
But that’s not facing reality, so
I must open my eyes

You didn’t mean
What you did or said
I should just forget
Deny or even lie
So, good-bye
