We all leave something behind. Sometimes we notice something missing when we return from a trip. Or we intentionally leave something behind, so that it will be there when we return to that place. And sometimes we leave traces behind, just in the wake of living our lives. The idea is similar to leaving a legacy, but not nearly as grandiose. It’s the little things left behind that ultimately create the most meaningful memories and traces of a life well-lived.

Lyrics
All the memories we take away
Share and relive
Yet who knows
How, why or when we will return
But in fact, the simple truth is that
All our stories are told
In what we leave behind
Waiting there
Why long for something that we don’t have
When nothing is lost
Instead, why don’t we just remember
Little things that we leave behind
Carefully, secretly
Hidden away
Calling quietly
While waiting patiently
For rediscovery day
Paving our way
Are pieces to be retrieved
Calling quietly
While waiting patiently
For rediscovery day
Paving our way
Are pieces to be retrieved
Waiting there
Beyond the memories we try to make
Times to be saved
Is the unspoken promise we make
To return, because the truth is that
All our stories are told
In what we leave behind
We must return
To retrieve what’s waiting there
A moment of magic that captured
Then spirited our hearts away
Isn’t that always what we leave behind
