This song was written at a time when we had literally spent 7 years waiting on one thing or another. We only wanted to get on with our life. (In retrospect—that was our life.)
We seemed to be perpetually stuck in a waiting room of one sort or another, and this song was our effort to acknowledge all of those feelings.
The magic of this song was that it marked a point where we finally decided that the only way to end this dulling experience was to shift our perspective. Exhausted, we finally broke the spell through our own resolve and moved on, intentionally leaving the “Waiting Room” behind. After all, you can only wait as long as you are willing!
Lyrics
Time drags within these walls
Wearily waiting for our names to be called
Both of us bored to tears
Haven’t we been sitting here too long
So long in the waiting room
Plans have gone awry with unexpected delays
With Chance on our side, soon we’ll be on our way
Sidetracked, it feels like
Direction without destination
Somewhere else to be
Yet we find ourselves sitting
In the waiting room
Waiting room
My book had drawn to an end
You mailed the postcards that you had just penned
Then both of us heard the call
Seems we’ve been here after all, too long
So long
To the waiting room
Finally breaking from that spell
We said farewell to the waiting
