Stem Toys are Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math based toys geared towards learning, curiosity, and education. There are a variety of different Stem Toys focusing on core disciplines in coding, engineering, chemistry, mechanical toys and more. … Our STEM toys and Kits focus on chemistry sets and science kits.
Our STEM toys are not just educational toys; they are also fun. Toys that utilize Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) concepts empower children to learn to take a more hands-on approach to challenges and tasks.
STEM-related toys and products are important to help kids develop useful skills in areas in which the career industry is continually seeing growing in.
In 1942, Norman Edmund searched diligently through mail-order advertisements to find a specific lens required to feed his hobby. He was an amateur photographer, and it was difficult to find optics to support this pastime. What he learned from that experience prompted him to place his own ads, offering specialty lenses in a photography magazine. Almost immediately, other hobbyists looking for “hard to find” optics starting sending in orders and the Edmund Salvage Company was born.
Today, Scientifics Direct, Inc. proudly operates as an independent business. Through our catalog and website, Scientifics Direct, Inc. continues to provide the latest and most unique science related items available. We love science just as much as our customers.
In the 1970s, as the viability of Edmund’s business model waned, Norman Edmund’s son Robert Edmund refashioned the business into two new ones,
Edmund Scientifics and Edmund Optics. Edmund Scientifics marketed to consumers and specialized in science-themed toys, vaguely high-tech household gadgets, and “science gifts.”
In 2001, the Barrington, New Jersey, store closed after Edmund Scientific was acquired by Science Kit and Boreal Laboratories.
That’s right: STEM toys. STEM toys have actually been around for several years now. As the New Yorker reported back in 2013, the industry was already welcoming an increase in STEM-related toys for almost a decade.
