Drawings Portal – Settle Down

The following original drawings were created for the Musical Stories which were published as our fifth collection in 2006 under the title of “The Way to Love.” We’ve included a brief description of  what each drawing means to us related to that part of our journey. Just one glance and the memories come flooding back. Simply click on the drawing to go directly to the original story and lyrics along with other related links.

Settle Down

This drawing is about learning to relax. We imagine a feather drifting slowly down, coming to rest in silence. That’s how true relaxation feels.

Lost In Thought

This drawing is about the maize of the mind. Eckhardt Tolle teaches about how the mind leads us away from our true selves, making us believe the illusions it constantly spins. We can so easily become lost in thought.

Something More

This drawing is about working too hard. How many times have we heard the question, “Is that all there is?”  Deep inside, we sense that there must be something more—and there is.

Ordinary Days

This drawing is about striving.  We must know when the hard work is finished. That’s when the ordinary arrives. It can look like sipping your morning tea in the garden or reading a book while gently swinging in the hammock.

Loophole

This drawing is about relinquishing control. Getting all of our ducks in a row is a great metaphor for having power and control, as if we really can make things happen our way. That’s when spontaneity slips through to save us from our arrogance.

Waiting Room

This drawing is about patience, one of our most important qualities to cope with adversity and disappointment. The waiting can seem like forever, but it’s not.

Once In a While

This drawing is about surprise, in a positive way. Sometimes, when we least expect it, our wildest imagining is exceeded. Such moments are short blasts of pure goodness that strengthen our confidence in hope and abundance. It happens.

Still Water

This drawing is about being tested. There are moments when an urgent response is demanded with no time to think—just act. Who we are becomes visible. After the urgency is resolved and the test is over, we can reflect on the truth about who showed-up when called.

Homecoming

This drawing is about returning home after a long absence. There’s nothing like sleeping in your own bed where everything is familiar, comfortable and just as you left it. That experience is even better when we know that our time away was well spent. We did what was needed and all promises were kept.

A-Piedi

This drawing is about the inevitable. We realize that luxury is a temporary illusion and that eventually, we must go alone on our own power—on foot. That’s how every journey ends.
