This drawing is about the picture of our lives. Piece by piece we create the image. Uniquely challenging and exciting at the same time, there are no edge pieces and it’s never finished.

This drawing is about the life of a family. What does it look and feel like to have a family that’s both tightly bound, yet fiercely independent? Perhaps it’s something like a knotted rope that extends out beyond the frame?

This drawing is about living one step at a time. The grass is not greener on the other side. However, if you want to test that assumption and see for yourself, simply take that first step.

This drawing is about the magic of silence. When all is said and done, the only thing left is silence. Being able to hold onto the quiet moments between words as long as possible is a gift.

This drawing is about trying to measure a life. Measuring is finite and exact to be sure and can never be more. Never. We way we see it: the measure of a life is to create life beyond measure.

This drawing is about the culture we live in. The rules, regulations and norms of our culture are both protective and limiting at the same time. The same is true of our individual customs and beliefs. True freedom is to clear customs.

This drawing is about being different. We are all uniquely ourselves underneath. The best life lived is to express that difference to the fullest. Trying to be anything else is futile and self-defeating. As Ray Davies of the Kinks said, “I’m not like everybody else,” and he was proud of it.

This drawing is about chucking it all. How exciting to leave it all behind, just get away. It’s definitely possible, but cutting all ties includes those that actually give us life. Snip with care.

This drawing is about reaching out and reaching in. Our ability to safely extend out into the world is dependent on our efforts to reach inward at the same. That balance between growth and roots is essential and cannot be compromised without consequence.

This story is about how we can miss what is nearby. Searching for a missing piece in our lives can evade our efforts. Most likely, what we seek is nearby, just within reach, yet we can’t quite see it. Look no further.
