We began years ago with a rather simple idea of dedicating some time and effort to process our relationship together. Marking that 27-year experiment with lyrics was our chosen method to both explore and document our ever changing shared experience.

The lyrics of the final song, “Ever After” sum up our entire journey—both simple yet comprehensive. In the closing line, “Strung together and Sewn,” our partnered experience is accurately captured. Relationships are incredibly complex webs of shared experiences and perspectives. Finding meaning is the ultimate goal, so bringing different points of view together is the challenge.

As shared understanding is established, the artistry of relationship begins. The stitching together of the diverse scraps of individual lives and views into a new and cohesive pattern creates the subtle art of a “partnership,” as the different ways of being together are beautifully crafted into one. It’s a careful and meticulous labor of love to weave and stitch together the colorful threads and patches of life. Two views merge into one and express the shared hopes and dreams of a new pattern. After all, don’t we each fashion our lives out of snips and bits of experiences? The agreement to blend those pieces of our lives together results in a unique hand-made quilt—a relationship like no other.
