Back to Fitting Pieces Forward to The Way to Love
Settle Down
Just settle down, my mother said
It’s funny how some words stay in your head
And even though I tried, I found over and over
In spite of all my trying, I don’t know how
To be satisfied
Just settle down
Take only one day at a time
Without losing ground
I look for something I can’t seem to get my hands on
Second-guessing, asking where I went wrong
While standing firm I keep all of my options open
Wondering whether to stop or just move on
To someday when I’ll be calm
Someday I’ll be the one to be contented
One day I’ll mend all of my ways
Then at last I will finally settle down
Be satisfied
As time goes by, Somehow I find
My mother’s words are still on my mind
And with each passing day, surely sooner or later
Because of all my trying I’ll find a way
To be satisfied
Just settle down
Take only one day at a time
Without losing ground
Getting closer every day
I will find my way
Someday there will come a time
When at long last
I’ll be satisfied
And settle down
Lost in Thought
When will I ever find peace of mind
When will there ever be the room to breathe
Now I’m searching endlessly and lost in thought
As I wait for the answers
They elude me and vanish in thin air
Cleverly flee from me leaving nothing there
And I am lost in thought, once again waiting
When will I ever know the way to go
What will the answer be to break
Through and set me free
What will it be when all is said and done
Is there a simple truth, a miracle
And is there only one
What will I know
Deep within my heart
Is there a destiny written in the stars
Another secret clue
Or a spinning twinkling tale of who we are
When will I ever find a clear-cut sign
Why aren’t the answers near for me to hear
Now I’m searching endlessly and lost in thought
As I wait for the answers
They elude me and vanish in thin air
Cleverly flee from me, leaving nothing there
And I am lost in thought once again waiting
When will I ever find the will to be still
When will I ever find peace
Something More
Everybody tells me
I’m good at this thing that I do
And I smile when I tell them
I love what I do
But is it really true
Everyday I spend filling
All my hours with worthy detail
Yet my heart yearns for even more
Still I ache for more
There must be something more
In the morning I catch a plane
And land in a state with a different time zone
It’s lunchtime when I arrive
But was barely daybreak when I left home
To check-in at the local hotel where they know me
They’ve remodeled my favorite room, and they show me
After I wash off the taxi ride, I pull my notes from inside my bag
A car picks me up and takes me where I’m needed
Run the meeting
Goals exceeded
Everybody tells me
I’m good at this thing that I do
Yet my heart yearns for even more
Still I ache for more
There must be something more
Something more
Ordinary Days
Looking up from my morning coffee
And into your eyes
Is this my Garden of Eden
Is this Paradise, or real life
Ordinary days or, a dream
Simple pleasures define us
Everybody is just the same
Standing high upon the peaks
Carved out of rocky terrain
Unbridled moments of passion
Strung between the routine day to day
Sometimes troubles refine us
Changing what we see
Everything we do and say
Every little word and deed
Even who we are
Although my days may seem common
I just can’t deny
That this is my Garden of Eden
This is Paradise
My real life
Ordinary days
And a dream
Loophole
Just after you button every loophole
Verify that your ducks are all in a row
Cross off everything on your checklist
At last you’re finally good to go
That’s when the unexpected slips out from the ordinary
Suddenly signals mix
As everything just falls right into place
What do you make of this electricity
Eerie sensation
Instant rapport
Familiar connection
You can’t quite put your finger on
What do you make of this synchronicity
You regain a sense of balance, an open view
Come to terms, even though there’s no sure proof or truth
What do you make of this spontaneity
Just after you cover all of the bases
Play your cards with the perfect winning hand
Even though it clearly looks like smooth sailing
Follow through with your best game plan
That’s when the unexpected slips out from the ordinary
Suddenly signals mix
As everything just falls right into place
What do you make of this
Where the ordinary slips beyond the everyday
Serendipity
Spontaneity
Synchronicity
Waiting Room
Time drags within these walls
Wearily waiting for our names to be called
Both of us bored to tears
Haven’t we been sitting here too long
So long in the waiting room
Plans have gone awry with unexpected delays
With Chance on our side, soon we’ll be on our way
Sidetracked, it feels like
Direction without destination
Somewhere else to be
Yet we find ourselves sitting
In the waiting room
Waiting room
My book had drawn to an end
You mailed the postcards that you had just penned
Then both of us heard the call
Seems we’ve been here after all, too long
So long
To the waiting room
Finally breaking from that spell
We said farewell to the waiting
Once in a While
Once in awhile
When you least expect it
Time stands still
And the stars align
Sometimes in a face
You see an answer
Suddenly it all falls in place
Even though
It may seem slow
Finally you find a path that’s true
Usually it seems
It’s all up to you, and hard to bear
And no matter what you do
It just takes much too much to care
Yet what else can you do
But what you do
And then wait patiently
You’ve tried, knowing times will surely ease a bit
Then suddenly
As if by magic
Everything seems to go your way
Every now and then
When you’re not looking
Fate steps in just to save the day
Even though
It may seem slow
Finally you find a path that’s true
Only when
You have given in
And done everything you can
Then you will find a path that’s true
Still Water
Still water, smooth sailing
Not far from shore
Graceful and quiet gliding
While the night mist is rising
Soft moonlight, still water
We’re almost there
Passing through narrow channels
Seeking safe harbor for the night
Day before yesterday, we
Weathered a rain storm at sea
Blustery currents tossed us
Rushing wind
Churning water
Fighting against the squall
With every rise and fall
Thrashing against each chilling wave
Crashing into the sea
Somehow we navigated our way that day
Sailing uncharted waters
Will against forces of the sea
Will against will with the sea
Smooth sailing, still water
Calm sea restored
Graceful and quiet gliding
While the night mist is rising
Seeking safe harbor for the night
Homecoming
Another day ends
I find myself just sitting all alone
Only moments away
In fact, I feel I’m almost there
Opening the door
As my thoughts turn to home
Somehow I turn again to thoughts of coming home
I did what I said
Without a doubt
Never a thought to taking the easy way out
True to my word
Promises kept
Knowing for sure I have given my best
Trusted the way
Always convinced
Sooner or later this path would make sense
So I’m coming home now
Can hardly wait to sleep in my own bed
Only moments away
In fact, I feel I’m almost there
Opening the door
As my thoughts turn to home
I find comfort again, with thoughts of coming home
Somehow, comfort is held within my thoughts of home
Thoughts of home
Coming home
A Piedi
In a snowstorm
When the car stopped
Long before we were home
Up the hillside
in the moonlight
The only path, our own
A piedi, a piedi,
Sempre cosí
Always on foot
Is how every journey ends, it seems
Just after midnight
We drove from the city
Through the rain
And then it happened
Out of the blue
Icy snowfall
Claimed the road
in the country, we got out
To see what happened
What to do
Things seem to happen
Nothing new
In the coming and the going
One thing you know
There’s a rhythm in arriving
No matter where you go
A piedi, a piedi
Sempre cosí
Always on foot
Is how every journey ends, it seems
Whatever happens, you get through
A piedi
Sempre cosí
