Our son Aaron was working for a large company, rapidly advancing and enjoying success. He was given projects in India and Budapest, Hungary and finally, Nuremberg, Germany. The last assignment was especially difficult. The situation was stressful as Aaron lived in a hotel for a few months. Many nights, from Italy, we were on the phone with him as he debriefed on the challenges of the day. It was interesting to all of us, since we had experiences of our own in different corporate settings.
Finally, after much consternation, he finished the project. He was more than ready to leave it all behind and return to a normal life. He’d missed his community of many great friends. His time alone in Europe and Asia underscored that.
We wrote this song as a tribute to his persistence and the comfort we all feel in coming home.
Lyrics
Another day ends
I find myself just sitting all alone
Only moments away
In fact, I feel I’m almost there
Opening the door
As my thoughts turn to home
Somehow I turn again to thoughts of coming home
I did what I said
Without a doubt
Never a thought to taking the easy way out
True to my word
Promises kept
Knowing for sure I have given my best
Trusted the way
Always convinced
Sooner or later this path would make sense
So I’m coming home now
Can hardly wait to sleep in my own bed
Only moments away
In fact, I feel I’m almost there
Opening the door
As my thoughts turn to home
I find comfort again, with thoughts of coming home
Somehow, comfort is held within my thoughts of home
Thoughts of home
Coming home
